What You Should Know About Treating Your Eyelids
What defines a beautiful eye?
Your upper eyelid is more attractive if it lacks excessive skin and is neither hollowed nor bulging. Attractive eyelids have a visible crease, making them appear larger and more youthful. The lower eyelid should not show baggy skin (photo).
In addition, it’s about symmetry. Noticeable imbalances are distracting.
By the time we reach 45 years, if not earlier, it’s obvious that our eyes, the centerpiece of our once youthful appearance, are changing—and not for the better.
In the past, blepharoplasty surgery was the only approach used to improve eye appearance, but now hyaluronic acid filling of the upper eyelid area is very effective in achieving eye rejuvenation. In some people, it can be used alone, while in others hyaluronic acid is combined with surgery for the best results.
In a recent report, both the doctor and patients agreed that skillful, individualized selection and application of the best treatment achieved pleasing results.
Here what they did.
The patients in this study were assigned to a treatment group based on their needs, with 128 patients treated with hyaluronic acid injections in the upper eyelid, while 21 underwent surgical treatment followed by hyaluronic acid injections to ensure full correction. Five patients had surgery only.
Here’s what they found.
One year after treatment, patient satisfaction with their treatment was high. Long-lasting benefit requiring no modifications after 2 years was common.
The bottom line.
In the right person, treatment with hyaluronic acid fillers alone restores fullness; and it’s an effective way to rejuvenate the upper eyelids. But for the best outcomes, the person doing the injecting must skillfully apply the most appropriate treatment technique.
Not everyone needs surgery, but the only way to know for sure is to get advice from a qualified and experienced aesthetic dermatologist.
